- environment- a living thing’s physical surroundings (air, water, weather, soil and land)
- ecosystem- a community of living and non-living things and how they interact with one another
- species- a group of living things whose members have the same main characteristics and are able to breed with each other
- endangered species- a species of living things that is seriously at risk of extinction
- extinct species-species of living things that no longer exists alive anywhere in the world
- population- a group of individuals of the same species occupying a particular geographic area
- community- a group of different species in a common location interacting with each other and their environment
- habitat -a natural home or environment of a living thing
- trait- a feature of a living thing; for example, eye color
- conservation- the act of preserving, protecting and/or restoring the natural environment
- food chain- a model that shows how energy is transferred from the Sun through producers and a series of consumers; from one living thing to another
- producer- living things that make their own food, like plants
- consumer -living things that cannot make their own food and have to eat other living things, like producers and other consumers
- predator- an animal that naturally hunts other animals for food
- prey- an animal that is hunted and eaten for food
- carnivore- consumers that eat other animals; meat-eaters
- omnivore- consumers that eat both plants and animals for food
- herbivore- consumers that eat only plants for food
- life cycle- the series of changes and developments that a living thing passes through from the beginning of its life until its death; the stages of an organism’s growth and development
