- organ-body parts that perform specific functions, p. 304
- spore-a small, seed-like structure that produces a new plant
- stamen- the male part of the flower that makes pollen, p. 366
- pollen-powdery grains (usually yellow) that contain the male reproductive cells of seed-bearing plants; has to be transferred from stamen to pistil in order for plants to reproduce, p. 366
- pistil- the female part of the flower that receives the pollen, p. 366

- fertilization-the process of the male part of the flower, pollen, combining with the female part of flower (egg) to make seeds
- reproduction-the process of producing a new living thing; animals, plants, fungi, etc.
- lungs- organs in animals that live on land; provide oxygen to the body and brain by taking it out of the air and then putting CO2 back into the air, as we exhale, p. 374
- gills – organ in fish (and many other animals that live in the water) that that act as lungs, taking oxygen gas from the water and putting CO2 back into the water. P. 375
- liver – an organ in the digestive system that makes a juice called bile which helps break down fat, p. 330
- intestines – tube-shaped organs in the digestive system that help digest food (small- absorbs nutrients from digested food/ large- soaks up excess water and minerals and leaves the waste to be passed out of the body). P. 330
- pancreas – an organ in the digestive system that makes juices that break down fats and proteins into smaller pieces so they can be absorbed, p. 330
- kidneys – organs in the excretory system that remove waste from the blood, also help the body conserve water and makes sure blood doesn’t contain too much or too little salt. P. 332
- bladder – organ in the excretory system that stores urine and then releases it from the body. It can stretch and hold up to a pint at a time! P. 332
